Roper St. Francis Offers FREE Community Health Fair at Wando High School on November 12

Roper St. Francis Healthcare will sponsor a Community Health Fair on Saturday, November 12 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Wando High School Cafeteria, Hwy. 17 North, Mount Pleasant. The event is FREE and open to the public. Registration is not required.

A variety of health and wellness screenings and information will be offered to interested residents. These include:

•  Vascular Information
•  Colorectal Assessments
•  Osteoporosis Screening and Education
•  Cancer Risk Assessments
•  Stroke Assessments
•  Diabetes Information
•  Cholesterol and Glucose Screening (3-4 hours fasting preferred)
•  Health and Wellness Resource Information

In June, the hospital system submitted an application to the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) requesting approval to build a new 85-bed hospital at Carolina Park, adjacent to Wando High School. The proposed Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital will include 24-hour emergency care; inpatient and outpatient surgery; women’s services including obstetrics; intensive and critical care units; and imaging, laboratory and pharmacy. Upon DHEC approval, plans call for the first patients to be seen at the new hospital in late 2008.
